The Gold Doesn't Get a Vote

This week I put a clip of Obama on the gold painted inlay.

The first click is him at a rally in Cleveland on October 24, calling the renovated Oval a Saddam Hussein Cheesecake Factory.

There is already a lot of gold in this room. I have spent an unreasonable amount of time making it clickable. Now someone else gets to comment on the decorating.

The campaign contribution amounts got an update too.

My last post was about The Buy-In. Twenty-nine entries, with a minimum of $25 million in reported giving. The minimum is still $25 million. There are forty-one reported estimates now. About $446 million at the top.

Republican-aligned giving on this list is about $1.5 billion. Democratic-aligned giving is about $680 million. Issue and policy groups sit at about $360 million.

The comparison was updated October 23. Filings are reported as of October 23. These are dated, reported estimates, not a live tally. Money moving between organizations can also mean the same dollar appears more than once.

The gold is funny until you get to the money behind it.

I am tired of watching people with unimaginable amounts of money act like the country is another thing they should own.

Tuesday, November 3, is Election Day.

They can buy advertising. They can fund political organizations. They can spend more money trying to get their way than most of us will see in a lifetime.

They still don't get to fill out your ballot.

As much as they try, they can't buy my vote. I don't intend to help them buy the country either.

If you haven't voted, make a plan. Check your polling place and hours with your state or local election office. Then show up.

The gold doesn't get a vote.
